Daniel Doerksen is a fourth-generation cattleman from Gem, Alberta, where he and his family operate Gemstone Cattle Company and Doerksen Farms. Raised in the cattle business, Daniel earned a diploma in Animal Science from Lethbridge College before returning to the family operation.

Gemstone Cattle Company includes registered Hereford and Red Angus cattle alongside a commercial cow herd. The program is built around cattle that can function in a forage-based production system, with selection focused on fertility, longevity, moderate mature size, structural soundness, feet and udders, and the ability to efficiently convert forage into beef.

Daniel's experience extends beyond the seedstock side of the cattle business. The family operation includes forage production, cattle feeding, and a grass-finished beef program, giving him experience with cattle from breeding decisions through the finished product. This allows genetics to be evaluated on their ability to perform throughout an actual production system rather than solely on their performance as breeding stock.

Through Gemstone, Daniel has also gained experience in cattle genetics and semen distribution, working with producers looking for cattle selected for reproductive longevity, forage efficiency, and functionality.

As the Bos Sires Representative for Canada, Daniel brings the perspective of an active cattleman who works with both registered and commercial cattle and understands the challenges of producing functional cattle under Canadian conditions.
